The nostalgia part of the trip is done; merci Nîmes! We took the TGV to Paris – it was eerie going by the highways and seeing cars doing “only” 130 km/h while we were going 260!
Once in Paris we dropped off our gear at the hotel and started exploring. First a quick walk to la Tour Eiffel then we made our way to the Arc de Triomphe and strolled down the Champs-Élysées all the way to the Louvre and Notre-Dame-de-Paris.
The day after, our last full day in France, we walked the streets of the Ville-Lumière. And walk we did – we figure 120 kms for the whole week! First off was the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur via Le Moulin Rouge. We then had a picnic beside the Tour Eiffel after which we made our way to an island in the middle of the Seine river to see a copy of the Statue of Liberty that the United States gave to France to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. We ended the day – and our fabulous trip – with an evening with La Tour Eiffel.

La partie nostalgie de ce périple étant terminée – merci Nîmes! – sont avons pris le TGV en direction de Paris. Un peu déroutant de voir les autos faire du sur-place à 130 kmh alors qu’on file à au moins le double!
Arrivés en début d’après-midi à Paris nous avons laissé nos bagages à l’hôtel et dix minutes de marche plus tard on saluait la Grand Dame. Puis direction l’Arc de Triomphe et les Champs-Élysées jusqu’à Notre-Dame en passant par le Louvre. Ouf!
La journée suivante, notre dernière en France, nous avons marché jusqu’à la basilique Sacré-Coeur en passant par l’inévitable Moulin Rouge. Après une autre longue marche – on aura marché 120 kms au total cette semaine! – nous sommes retournés à l’hôtel afin de souffler un peu. Puis pique-nique devant la Tour Eiffel, après quoi nous avons marché jusqu’à une île au beau milieu de la Seine, où se trouve une copie de la Statue de la Liberté offerte par les États-Unis à la France pour célébrer le 100è anniversaire de la Révolution.
Vive la France, quel beau voyage!
