H2OMG what a day! We drove from our jungle lodge to the town of Baños, stopping to the beautiful waterfall of Pailon del Diablo on the way.

Once in Baños we were treated to an… unusual spa experience at a resort high in the Andes. We started with a dip in a hot pool overlooking the city below. And then… then we experienced what I call hammam-in-a-box, where you sit in an enclosed space with your head sticking out. Yep. In that box there is steam with scented herbs. Yes, it’s weird. But I managed to relax (that’s the whole point of this exercise no?) only to be told to escape the box in order to take a cold shower. Then back in the box, then more excruciatingly cold water, and one more cycle because we don’t want to offend the Andean gods. Very relaxing!

Nous avons quitté la jungle en direction de Baños, avec un arrêt aux chutes Pailon del Diablo.

Arrivés à Baños on nous a amenés à un spa juché au haut des Andes. Joli assortiment de piscines et de bains tourbillons avec vue sur la ville. Et puis… et puis un truc que je qualifierais de hammam-en-boîte. Assis dans une sorte de casier avec la seule la tête qui en ressort, on essaie tant bien que mal de relaxer – c’est le but de toute cette patente après tout! – mais au bout de cinq minutes on nous ordonne d’en sortir pour subir une douche glaciale. On refait le tout une couple de fois et, si on réussit à faire abstraction qu’on est dans un pilori, on est purifié et relaxé!
