On this, our first full day in NYC, we explored the city by walking on the High Line. There used to be an elevated railroad track snaking its way for about 2 kms. It was a really neat way to discover the city, seeing things we would not have seen otherwise, while walking above cars. Bonus: we ended up at the Chelsea food market – think St Jacob’s / St Lawrence markets but kicked up a notch.
More walking, stopping in the lobby of the Empire State Building among other things.
Then the livin’-the-high-life segment of our trip started: afternoon tea at the Russian Tea Room, where we were served an assortment of amuse-gueules in a turn-of-the-century décor (the other century). Très chi-chi and we loved it!
We finished it off with a Broadway show: School of Rock. I’ve been caught humming “Stick it to The Man” the rest of the week.

En cette première journée complète à New York, on a exploré la ville sur le sentier de la High Line. C’était auparavant un chemin de fer d’environ 2 kms, qu’ils ont transformé en promenade, deux étages au-dessus des rues. Vues imprenables sur la “vraie” ville. Bonus à la ligne d’arrivée: le marché Chelsea, un feu d’artifice de petits restos de haute gamme.
Parlant de haute gamme: nous sommes allés “jouer à la Madame” au Russian Tea House: séance de thé en fin d’après-midi, avec amuse-gueules dans une atmosphère des plus chi-chi avec un décor du début du siècle (l’autre siècle).
Et qui dit New York dit Broadway: nous sommes allés voir School of Rock, et j’en ai peut-être perdu la voix en chantant “Stick it to The Man”!
