We were smitten with Strasbourg! When we booked our vacation-inside-a-vacation there, it was mostly an excuse to take a ride on the TGV, the Train à Grande Vitesse, France’s high-speed train. And to check out the self-proclaimed Best Christmas Market In Europe.
We can’t say for sure if it’s the best one but we loved it!
Strasbourg has a very compact downtown. To go from our hotel to the focal point, the cathedral, was only 1.5km. Walking just a little more took us to the two markets the farthest away from our place; no big deal.
So we spent from Wednesday evening to Saturday afternoon touring the area, making sure we hit all 10 Christmas markets. Lots of walking – which is good considering how much we ate! I sampled all kinds of sauerkrauts (the 3-fish one was a religious experience), Mich ate pork brain sausage, an incident which could have been prevented but wasn’t. I guess I should have intervened before she ordered it but I had a brain cramp (see what I did there?) Anyway, we’re still talking. Merci, Strasbourg!

Nous sommes tombés en amour avec Strasbourg! Lorsqu’on a réservé cette vacance-dans-une-vacance, on y allait surtout pour faire un tour en TGV. Le fait que Strasbourg soit la capitale des marchés de Noël en Europe était un bonus. En fin de compte, le TGV était chouette mais ce n’est qu’un train qui va très vite, parfois. Mais Strasbourg…
Son centre est compact, donc pour aller de notre hôtel jusqu’à la cathédrale, ce n’était qu’une vingtaine de minutes. Ca nous a permis de visiter les 10 marchés de Noël, notre préféré étant celui en l’honneur de la Belgique, à cause des gaufres évidemment!
Une chance qu’on a marché beaucoup parce qu’on s’est goinfré. Mich a dégusté, sans le savoir, de la cervelle de porc. Bon, j’aurais peut-être dû l’avertir, mais je ne l’ai pas fait. Quand elle a réalisé ce qu’elle venait de manger… De mon côté, la choucroute aux 3 poissons fut la vedette gastronomique de cette vacance. Le vin blanc chaud, pas vraiment 🙂
